Re: New radios

Ah, know the one. Loads that look the same but different name on it, they all vary a lot in price too.

So if you just go for the cheapest one, will it be the same as the most expensive or are they subtly different somehow?

There's the Superstar, KPO, Intek, Alinco and more, mmmm??

Re: New radios

I am looking for a new 10/11M SSB Radio too. Had a Ranger 2950 a few years ago, didn't like it. Any ideas on which new radios are reliable as I plan on using it in my car and the roads are crap / pot holed around here, don't want my new radio being jolted into pieces. I like the new President Grant ...

Re: Albrecht AE2990AFS SSB advice please?

Been using CB and full on Amateur Radios since 1980.

Bought one of these, didn't like it, made no contacts, even on larger antenna, sold it on quickly.

Maybe I was doing something wrong but I found the U.I poor.

Happy contacts though, enjoy!

Re: BAUFENG UV-5RA UV5RA Dual Band U/V

You are restricted to using 0.3 watts (300mw) on the UK PMR446 channels so in theory, you are way over with your UV-5R if on high power, just saying.

I'm sure most people don't worry or care, just enjoy the wonderful radio hobby!

Suzuki Jimny 2006, Orbiter SS on 7" Turbo Magmount with Midland Alan 42 (+ car kit) to plug into ciggie lighter.

Limo Black Windows for security / peace of mind and wondering if any other 4x4 CB'ers in Northampton area?

Re: Suzuki Jimny instal

I use a 7" Turbo Magmount, run the wire to the back along the roof, inside through the rear door opening. It goes through the split in the rear seat down onto the floor and into the front of the car. I'm using a Mini Orbiter antenna which is small but gives great range on my Midland Alan 42 Handheld...

Re: mag mount

I've been using Magmounts for 20 years, never used anything else and never had any problems. Like you, used to have company car and was easy to remove for multi-story carparks or if parking in a very bad area etc. Otherwise, it stays on all the time and have currently got massive stainless Orbiter a...

Re: DX contact - 1,578 miles

I've had Budapest from Northampton UK on my Abrecht 2990 Handheld I got from Thunderpole. Not sure how far but was on 27.555 USB and with supplied whip antenna. Was quite chuffed but have also got further on 5W through my Yaesu FT-817 Amateur Radio with a 20M Hamstick on magmount (all Thunderpole ag...

Re: new kid on the block.

Welcome to the forum Chris! And yes as Stampman says, you are correct (although the Orbitor is a good all-round antenna). Andy  I've got the full size stainless Orbiter on a mag-mount, perfect SWR, springs back with no harm done if you go into a car-park barrier and have spoken to people all ...

Re: Hello All :)

I had a Mini Orbiter on top of my old Honda CRV (4x4) and it never hot anything.

Now that I have the full size stainless steel version which is about twice as long, it does hit the barriers etc.

But at least it just springs back, no harm done to anything, sounds worse than it is etc.

Albrecht AE2990 SSB Handheld

Hi guys (& gals) Just picked up one of these superb SSB Handhelds from Thunderpole, great guys there by the way! Does anybody know where you can get the Desktop Charger or plug in Mains Charger from and at what price? The radio doesn't come with a charger but you get a good sized battery pack that h...

Re: Local Calling Channels...

So do you think it's worth waiting to buy a new rig or what? I'm looking at getting a Superstar 3900 with the built-in frequency display, does anybody have one of these, are they any good? Can only run it through a huge Thunderpole Mobile Antenna on a magmount but still hoping to get abroad with the...

FREE ANTENNA - NORTHAMPTON

I have put up a Thunderpole CB Antenna at the back of my house on the roof of the extension (1st floor height). It has been up there for 3 months and was put up professionally by a company in Kettering. It is not being used and if anybody wants it FREE OF CHARGE, you're welcome to it. You will need ...

Re: Zetagi TM999 SWR help required

The antenna was put up under my supervision and I made sure all joints / connections along the Thunderpole were waterproofed with tape including the PL co-ax connection at the bottom. The co-ax is about 15 metres long and bends around the corner of the house into the window etc. but everything looke...
