Re: Getting back into it...

I have been thinking about "bigger is better" when it comes to my antenna, i know my old silver rod back in the day kicked ass so it think i might go back down that route, but on a hinge. My thoughts are this, my CB is only on when i am working in my garage/ workshop so i am thinking of fabricating ...

Re: Getting back into it...

Thanks Andy, I think I need to start paying you as you have helped me so much.😙 The frequencies confuse me though, I understand that "Muppet 40" and mid block 40 are both FM, I see the rigs with AM as well, does anyone use AM? I really like the CRT rigs and need to find a way of justifying it to mys...

Re: Getting back into it...

The harrier has a mid block although there's never anyone on it, is that a different frequency to the AM and FM rigs I see on eBay? I see the CRT ones advertising all the European channels? Are they different channels to the mid block? Does anyone use those extra channels? Andy, you have been so muc...

Re: Getting back into it...

Thanks for the advice regarding going vertical Andy, it made a huge difference. I got some rig checks from quite a way out, 20 miles plus at a guess. We all love photos so here's my rather crude set up. The antenna is a dipole on a telescopic fishing rod. Easy to put up and down. http://i18.photobuc...

Re: Getting back into it...

Again, thanks Andy, can I ask you one more thing regarding the antenna though please? My current dipole doesn't pick much up, I have a choice of mobile antennas, I have a modulator on a mag mount, and anther mobile twig, not sure what it is but it used to work well on my van, it's for an orange piece...

Re: Getting back into it...

Thanks guys, the map looks quite active in my area so I am going to go for it.

I was considering a new rig, do you think there will be any benefit over my harrier cbx?

Thanks again

Mike

Getting back into it...

Hi guys, looking through my garage the other day I came across my old harrier cbx, I haven't used it in years but I fired her up with a crudely made dipole and before long I had a solid 1.2 swr and I picked up one person. Just one. The harrier is a fine rig, I even had a mid block fitted back in the...
