Re: Any cb'er's based in Somerset ?

Try Ch27 every Wednesday between 2pm and 4pm - there's a friendly net called the Homesteaders with people from South Wales and the West participating. In addition, there's the Sunday DX net that runs from 2pm-4pm every Sunday on Ch32.

Worth getting to high ground for the above

Re: Breakers in Exeter?

Try Ch38 on UK FM - apparently a popular channel down in Devon and also Ch28 FM Mids from 9pm on Saturday nights (also known as CEPT and EU block). The Ch28 net is the Papa Limas which often has participants from Devon and they sometimes have a late shift from midnight onwards concentrated around Ex...

Re: UHF 446 SUCCESS

Nice contact - I also thought 446 was crap until I started landing a few contacts from the hills, now these days I always take one along. Can be very rewarding, especially using a basic radio.

Re: good day for cb radio

Quite a bit of activity on UK FM when I went down to Cornwall last week, it was a job to find a clear channel, but I was on quite high ground.

Re: Hello from Cardiff

Try a few calls on Ch31 (UK FM) which is usually monitored by a few around Barry, Cardiff and some on the Somerset coast - also try Ch32 between 2pm and 4pm on Sundays (Sunday DX Net) and Wednesdays between 1:30 and 4pm (Homesteaders Net). Ch38 from around 10pm there's usually a few on from Wales/We...

Re: various questions from a noob (sorry in advance)

Handhelds are not known for lasting long on their internal batteries, so use the low power setting unless you need the high power setting (1w/4w selectable by the look of it). Also keep at least one spare set of top-quality batteries to hand per radio. A handheld is basically the same as a normal mo...

Re: H-512 PLUS CB TRANSCEIVER

There is an active Northumberland Net on UK FM Ch38 up there, although I'm not sure of their exact locations, but unless they're on your doorstep, or you take the CB to very high ground, you'll unlikely be able to make contact. These days with CB operators being much more widely dispersed than they ...

Re: Which cb?? Interference problems.

Sounds like the fuel injectors - on modern systems, the fuel gets cut when the engine is on overrun, so there's no noise when going downhill  My van was the same - I could even hear the noise on the homebase radio when the van was ticking over outside. I managed to reduce the noise by fitting ...

Re: Anyone regular users in Somerset?

I replied to your "Newbie to CB" post with the following, but perhaps you missed it. Listen out for the Homesteaders Net (UK Ch27 from 1:30-4pm every Wednesday), the Papa Lima Net (EU Ch28 9pm-midnight every Saturday), the Sunday DX (UK Ch32 2pm-4pm) and the Bank Holiday Charlie Tango Nets on UK Ch3...

Re: Saying Hello

Hi,

Head up to the hills between 2pm and 4pm on a Sunday and you should hear a good few on the Sunday DX (Ch32 UKFM) - there's also a fair bit of activity on CH24 in Gloucestershire

Indeed CT are running a 446 event on Easter Sunday, more specifically, the CT eXtreme DX Team who specialise in operating portable from high ground locations  In addition to the info on Delboy's banner advert, the event runs from around 12pm until 2pm - please consider Ch8 as a starting point ...

Sounds like the antenna is too low down - higher the better on the vehicle (ideally in the centre of the roof to give a more even performance pattern)
