OK, I'm not a lorry driver but I figure you guys are the ones I'm going to spend most time talking to...

So what channel do you hang out on? 16? UK?

Been eavesdropping (I'm sure that's a bit rude) this last week - that scanner function's handy - on the commute and have mostly picked up "Here we go, more bloody brake lights" - well, I do inhabit the M25! I don't seem to have much range on the handheld, probably about 1/2 a mile but I'd love to say hi... But I'm shy... What's the best way to join in? Will anyone say "GET ORF MY CHANNEL"...?

there are still alot of us lorry drivers around who still use the CB radio for diretions and to find out what the roads are like ahead of us and most of us hang out on channel 19 as it is our mobile calling channell or just keep flicking through all of the channels i am shure you will pick up a couple of truckers driving through your area.

Bottom line is be polite, use correct radio procedure and I'll talk to you if your riding along on a sit down mower.
At the end of the day we just want breakers to use their CB,s correctly, you'll be amazed in the Felixstowe/ Ipswich area at the idiots who will sit on the 1-9 chatting away - point in case 2 weeks ago big accident which resulted in another on A14 at Ipswich - road completly closed 1 dead and lying in carriage way 5 cars wrecked and 1 wagon - could I get through to those idiots to get off !! so I could stop other road users joining a closed road ::-()

I think that's what most of us newbies worry about - unwittingly not following procedure. Is there somewhere on the web to give newbies a bit of a heads up? I've had a look around this forum and can't see anything, although i'll be the first to admit that sometimes i don't see the wood for the trees!!

Any guidance, hints, tips, or general pointers on the correct protocols and procedures would be very gratefully received :)
