i have just bought a midland 98 and the squelch button needs to be turned all the way up to get rid of the noise any ideas on what the problem could be ? is it an antenna problem? i had a tti cb before this and the squelch used to tune out the noise at about the 1 oclock position and the midland is connected to same antenna.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

High niose could be a defective Filter/Capaciter .
Think the 98 uses the same board as the 38 , if so there is a Squelch adjuster inside , think its VR1 ,

KERNOW 3100 Midland 38 / 98 Circuit board
VR 1 Squelch
VR 2 RX , recieve needle adjust
VR 3 TX , Key up needle adjust
VR 4 Mic Gain
VR 5 Power output
