All,

When I say I am a newbie with this CB game, trust me I really am.
I've just brought a T2000 with one of the coil "twigs"; the twig is mounted to a Thunderpole V-Bolt Mount, which itself is mounted to the factory fitted roof rails on my Ford Wildrak.

The problem I have is that the CB seems to transmit with full signal when I push the PTT, but the signal strength isn't there at all to receive on any channel.

Ive read about these SWR's and grounding the twig, but am really lost what could be the issue or where to start.
The twig is one of the Thunderpole orbitors coil jobbies.

Please.... please... help and advice greatly received.

Thanks
-Martin

very difficult to diagnose from that do the basic check the swr first that is a must then make sure the automatic squelch is switched off as that will kill the incoming signal

Thanks Stampman; Much appreciated for the reply.

Being a tight ar53d Northern Monkey, I was hoping to avoid buying one of those SWR meters, especially as I would likely use it once and the twig has been pre-tuned by the good folk here at Thunderpole. HOWEVER, needs must etc, i'll get myself one ordered and give it a bash after I've tried grounding the twig.

So any pointers with these SWR's???

Basically...
1) Connect twig cable to one hole.
2) Cable to rig from the other hole.
3) Test SWR on channel 1.... how?
4) Test SWR on channel 40 .... how?
5) if readings are skewed..... adjust twig.

Is that sort of it right?

I'll have to search you tube, unless anyone can suggest a great link here.

Also.... why would a dodgy SWR stop all receive signal? A simple "coz it does you mupet" is fine, happy for it to be that simple.

Cheers

Just to be clear before I start diving into the heavy SWR checking....

The car I have is essentially this...Image

I have a mount on the roof rails but no signal is seen on the T2000.

Would doing the SWR tests go some way to fix this then or does it simply need grounding?

REally stuck why the rig doesn't work. I've even disconnecting it all and re-connecting it together the the twig being hand held, still no receive signal.

FIXED!!! :D :D

Completely a nweeeb, idiotic nugget.

So after re-seating the twig, trying it in different locations and all sorts... it was simple. It was working all along!

OUTCOME
When I drove into areas which were a little more talkative, hey presto it all worked. The static and squelch and so called no signal being displayed all kicked into life when somebody was gassing.

So in case you wondering, I mounted my twig on the factory fitted roof bars on the wildtrak, with inner tube between the big v-bolt mirror mount to stop it damaging the bars. It all works, very pleased.

Thanks.

since i last posted had the same problem with a t2000 and it turned out that if the ASQ button is pressed on it totally deafens the set and it will not hear anything above 500 yards away

so something else to check
