I have two pairs of handsets, one pair Durabrand (Binatone) and the other pair Technika.

Each handset works fine with its corresponding twin, ie Durabrand to Durabrand and Technika to Technika are OK. However, neither brand will talk to the other brand (ie Durabrand won't talk to Technika).

Both are very cheap supermarket handsets and I don't think either has any trick features..

Any ideas?

Narrowed it down to one rogue faulty handset.

Turn the squelch down and static comes through loud and clear. Thinking along the same lines as you; either it's off frequency of there's a problem around the antenna. Going to check for dry joints and bin it if I can't see anything obvious.
