decided to risk the weather today and head up to my hill in wales, i listened to the weather man and he said it would be raining all day so with that in mind i only took the mag mount and 1/4 wave tank whip.

got up there just after lunch and it was nothing but sun so a bit gutted at this point, thinking damm i wish i brought the antron.

conditions were pretty bad for radio until about 15.30 when some 1 div started pouring in and out

so set the tank whip up, stuck the icom in and tuned etc etc.

was running at about 1/2 to 3/4 power on the icom and this is what i got.

163-TM-555 Steve in Cardiff
163-TM-100 Steve in Pontypool
26-TM-034 Tony in Somerset
163-MU-152 Mike in Pembroke
26-TM-2307 Gary near Bath
26-FB-001 Hard to work as he was horizontal antenna i was vertical but i think he said telford.

and lastly
55-AT-011 Tony in gibraltar from my dx location to the center of Gibraltar it is 1097 miles, he was 5/5 and i was the same back to him, we had about a 10 min qso he faded out a few times but was very workable.

all in all a good day.

did anyone else get dx'ing in?

Well done with the Gibraltar contact - I know you've been waiting a long time for that bit of skip :D

A couple of lessons learnt - don't listen to the weather forecast and always take the Antron

Nice one.

Even with that 1/4 Wave Tank Whip, you were certainly banging out clear as a bell here in Cardiff.

Thanks for the QSO and for admitting that you could hear me, thereby confirming that I had actually managed to wire-up my new microphone correctly - phew! [converting the 8-Pin Watson mic. to my 6-Pin Ranger was a challenge!]

If you can work Gibraltar with a 5/5 radio report on the mag.mount, I dread to think what are you're expecting with the Antron :)

anything to be honest. i was pretty happy with the 163 and 26 operators i worked. getting 55 div only made it better.

that mic sounds pretty good there steve, i may be up there again this sunday with the antron and try the lincoln out with its new mic and slightly more power lol

Shame I didn't get to hear them.
