can you recieve scramled air waves or is being digital being like scrambled only ages i had a scanner and you coul here every thing then lots went digital and you couldnt recieve them , i remember there was scrambled police channels i just dont really understand it all
There is no such thing as a digital scanner, the only thing that's digital is the frequency readout. Scanners will only receive analogue transmissions that are transmitted in the clear and not scrambled in any way. The Police converted to digital tetra radios ages ago that work in conjunction with the o2 mobile phone network. Other services have also gone digital and more will follow.
UPDATE: the first digital scanner will be available in the uk in september. the AOR ARDV-1. the price is estimated to be £1,600 although that could change between then and now. however, when you consider SDR offers a far more affordable alternative I cant see this product being very popular.
