Anyone else got a Yaesu VX-8 with the external speaker/mic with GPS unit? I have...it's a super little HT which covers 6 meters, 2 meters and 70 cm's tx and it has a huge rx coverage. Added the Diamond SRH-940 antenna to replace the original one. Already had QSO's on 2 meters and was VERY impressed with the range. I'm having a go on 6 meters next Monday and will let you know how I get on/what I think. :)

Yeah, the VX-8 took me a while to program in all the right settings and I've only had time to put in a few of the most popular frequencies so far. The menu system is easy enough to use when you're reading the right part of the very thick manual. But I must say it's a super looking little thing that's impressed me no-end with all the features and gizmos that Yaesu have packed into it. Plus the QSO's I have had already have always given me a 5,9 report. :D

Well we did talk equipment, QTH, the Islands On The Air weekend we were all taking part in along with other topics....(we didn't know how many were coming to the Isle of Bute and by talking on 2 meters we discovered each other and were able to arrange to meet up). 5, 9 was my readabilty and signal strength report I had from opposite ends of the island and over on the mainland - they were, as I was, impressed with the performance of my HT! :D

Had a great QSO on 70cm's earlier this evening with a ham in Troon...nearly 40 miles away using my handheld! Yes, the VX-8 is super!! The Diamond SRH-940 antenna was money well-spent (to replace the stock rubber duck). :D

Gradually bought ALL the extras for my VX-8 (Diamond SRH-940, 1800 mAh battery, speaker/mic, GPS unit, soft case) and still REALLY pleased with it. It is on charge at mo ready for Wednesday when I'll be on the mainland with it. I'm hoping to get a 10 meter transceiver for joint b'day/xmas.... :)
