I am 99% of the way there to buying a new 10/11m rig such as a Cobra 200 / Magnum 257 etc. (any advice would be appreciated).

But I was wondering how active is the Skip or Conditions at the moment for long range contacts?

I know we're coming up to a sunspot high but I don't want to splash out £250+ and find the band is dead / nobody to talk to!

What times of day is best for talking long distance? Night time used to be better for 7MHz listening but what is best for 25-30MHz?

Any help would be great from you experts.

Just been into Thunderpole to buy a Thunderpole antenna, they said it was not far off the performance of the Antron99 and it was only £20.

Installation later this week by company in Kettering for bargin price, if anybody wants their details, let me know.

Thunderpole also told me don't touch new Magnums or Cobra's, only Ranger / Superstar 3900 is reliable. They sold 20 Magnum S9's and had the lot back for fixes.

So it's a 3900 me thinks!!

if the magnum is a design fault the if it can be fixed or up rated might be worth a look at the right price

i got the KPO DX5000 for my car and it works a treat. Puts out good rower and easy to use. Would like to up the modulation a tuch as i dont wanna get a power mic as the one it comes with is nice and small and has the up / down and squelch on it.

Any ideas as to up the MOD would be a help.

Good radio though and it looks good in the car.
