Any views on this little handie guys? I've just got one...they're quite hard to get hold of. Thunderpole have sold out and so have other ham radio suppliers. My first impressions are all good: it's a doddle to program and use, it's small and will fit in a shirt or jacket pocket (about the size of a credit card and VERY light), it charges quickly, it's dual band tx with a good rx coverage too.... Will let you know how I get on with it. :D

Been out to do my ham radio time earlier.....hit a repeater 18.9 miles away on the mainland with the Alinco with just 300 milliwatts! Very, very, very pleased indeed!! Also did aprs with the VX-8E and qso'd on 10 meters....all in all a good evening for doing radio. :D

Forgot to say: with the Alinco I am using a Diamond 'stubby' antenna (SRH805S) which I am SO impressed with...it's a tiny 4.5cm's!!! :D

This little beauty is my favourite radio at the mo! Now have the leather case and have ordered the speaker/mic for it. Impressed my pal on the mainland earlier this evening when I used it to have our ragchew on 2 meters: "5, 9 and GREAT audio!" he said. :D

Changed antenna to a Comet SMA209 'cause I'd read some great things online....I'm off the island later this week and the little Alinco will definitely be in my shirt pocket! :)

:D I bought one of these .It has been really handy(see what I did there)

even with the 300mw output I have found that I can still hit the Aylesbury repeator from Middleton cheyney

I used this little gem for a club net a couple of years back (christmas greetings on the air) and with just a small 1/4 wave antenna on my car parked at the top of Edgehill in Warwickshire I was able to reach Birmingham and Goucester

I'm really impressed by the fact it just fits in my pocket
