im often in a black vecra with a little wil or a white transit with a mini springer on now,
have got a setup in my flat but no external antenna so limited range, although im hoping to get a tank whip (or simalar) up in the tree outside on a artifical ground plane base.
so far i have modded the base so its not as noticable when in the tree, just going to sort out waterproofing the coaxal and sot the twig out on sat and test it out

was going to go with a base antenna but i have a spare tank whip laying about.
cant say i have seen a 106 around with a twig on yet but i will keep my eyes open

Ahh right, ive not seen a vetra about either :\ but now you mentioned it i'll keep a look out for you, that antenna your making there looks really good fair play! sure wont be as noticable in the tree. My plans are to buy a tank whip and then save up for a wilson 1000 for mobile use so i can see what all this fuss is about with wilsons haha.
If only you were out today we might of made a copy as i went right ontop of the hill i live on with my silver rod for the first time and it really was awsome! copied so many people using only 3 or so watts including offplanet off here which was a 43mile copy so he said and we were both pretty much 30+ r5
Im just gonna make a thread about my journey with some pics so keep a look out. and keep up that work there mate.

you'll be doing well with the wilson 1000, for 16 quid the tank whip is a bargin (think it cost 16quid).
my wilson base cracked when the whip hit a tree at 40 so need to make some running repairs.
i was going to have the rig on this evening, normally have it ticking over on the 555.
i used a 5/8th silver rod for a while out on the hills but it was not strong enough in the wind, its not broken or bent but i could see it breaking eventually, so it just sits in my flat now not being used

Yeah i hope so, and from that little cb shop in hereford the tank whips are going for 22quid so well worth it i think.
Well thats a rather expensive crack then and thats what is making me think twice about buying a wilson because they cost a load so might buy a sirio 4000 instead and save a few quid and get similar results and im already using a sirio so wont need the magmount.
And i see what you mean about the silver rod bending in the wind! wow it was swaying a fair bit today haha i only had it stuck in the ground about 8-10 inches aswell as the ground was so rocky and took for ever to dig a hole so i just stuck the battery behind the pole so it propped it up abit and it worked perfectly.

you should lug it all up the beacons mate, to the highest point, youll do well up there.

unuseuall for a wilson base to crack i presume you mean the coil the only problem with them is if you mount them so that water can get in via the lead apart from that they are spot on

if it anit broke dont fix it
Yeah he is, and a nice bloke too shame about the lack of radios there but he's got everything you would ever need there i think which is great.marsh phantom wrote:thats where i got my mini springer from, he is a thunderpole stockist and he trys to keep it competative.

it has cracked just above where the lead goes in, its all dry inside now so will silicon it up and it should be fine, may need to reshape the whip as well lolstampman wrote:unuseuall for a wilson base to crack i presume you mean the coil the only problem with them is if you mount them so that water can get in via the lead apart from that they are spot on
