Plese read the other posts from yesterday
http://www.thunderpole.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1247

I'm looking at doing some DX work.
I've been recommended the Antron 99 antenna..

but was wondering what a good replacement radio would be.. ive been looking at some of the Inteks, and Presidents etc

I would like to know where i could get hold of a decent burner as well,

Any suggestions?

Cheers

in that case any of the larger sets would do ie with more controls on

hi mate you wanted to know what makes a good dx set up ??
well if i was you and depending how big you want to go on this and also depending if you want to talk round the world or just to the next country,
i would go this way,

i wouldent get an A99...i would go I-MAX2000 with ground plain kit,
and radio well theres four that would do the job nicely and you wont have to run a burner....well you shouldent have to with these, lol

cobra-(148-GTL-DX

superstar-(360-FM)

ranger-(2950) modded to do 27meg's
Image

Galaxy-(DX 2517) home base,

one of these should do the job for you.........
and also its luck of the draw some times thay hear you some times thay dont !!!! good luck dxing mate .and who knows i might hear you down here in adelaide.sa

Thanks for all your help so far.. Those radios certainly are something (: ive got my eye on the superstar 360, there seem to be more of them available at the minute.
just depends on how much you want to get out and how much you want to spend ???
>> Well im not looking to spend more than £100 on a radio really.. as for how far i want to go,, well as far as is possible .. but on a budget i trust im not going to get a lot further than Europe, East -Europe , the Med etc ?

well the best ones are the ones that you like the look of, what i mean to say is,
if you like it and it does what you want ie goes where you want it to,
but you dont know too many people that have had one of them ...well its all trial and erorr,

1, its in your buget,
2,it goes where you want to go ie (FREQ)
3,it looks good,
4,if you ever sell it you wont lose to much money, trying to get back your out put in the first place,(MONEY THAT IS)
5,(ALL WAYS ----ALL WAYS KEEP THE BOX AND PAPER WORK AND PACKING)and orig mic and bracket. becouse then it looks like the next person is getting a new radio and doesent have to hunt round trying to put it back to the orig look,
6,and if all the above fail......well just have fun in what you have becouse it doesent mater how long we have "ALL" been on radio we still learn some thing new each day with it,.even ol farts like me lol,

Okay.. ive been looking at the superstar 3900.. with additional frequency counter

http://www.ranger.com.my/land_ss3900.htm

does anyone know what power supply would do,,

13.8V DC , 10 W AM/FM/CW & 25W SSB

??

I've got a 3 Amp PSU at the minute,

Cant find the specs anywhere saying how many amps it takes..

I'm likely to be doing quite a lot of static mobile DX work.. but nevertheless i cant be out all the time.

Cheers
