i have just installed a new rig in my discovery only a cheapy (other company) with a sirio 3000 anttena. the swr hardly moves off 1 on channel 20 1 40 my question is i know the aerial is a good make (bought off thunderpole with there advise) but do you think i would gain from a better rig as from what i can see they all put out 4 watts. is the (other company) ok or is a better rig worth looking into thanks for any advice.

I've had a few CB's in my time and really like Midland....back in the 80's and now. The more you spend the more features/bells/whistles you'll get. Have a general search around for reviews and comments on models you like the look of. If you don't want a Midland I would consider going for the President Jackson II which is the first sideband rig that's legal in the UK and EU....it means if you travel outside the UK you'll be legal wherever you go and you can live in hope that ssb will be legalised here for CB'ers!!! :)

thanks for your advise i will have to stick with the sirio as i have only just bought it. my main problem is some times i can hear people clearly but they can,t hear me and i do get a lot off crackling and i feel that if i turn the squelch up i can only hear people close by and i thought if i got a better rig this might help me to hear things better (without the back ground crackle) or is this something to expect being mobile. i was looking at the harrier cbx any thoughts on them. oh and is there many cb ers in the surrey area. thanks

harrier cbx is a first class cb if you can get one but you will still have the background noise

I have a sirio 3000 antenna on my van and it works really well  tried it with a magmount 1st of all just to make sure i didn't get too much interference, there was no interference what so ever (lucky me) so decided to drill a hole in the roof of the van and fix the sirio via a SO239 Mount, well pleased with it! :D

hi i must admit i am pleased with the sirio had a cheap springer before and could not get the swr below 2 but when i got this one could not get the needle to move and i was talking to my brother who lives about 8 miles away with no probs and he is on the other side off a big hill so was pleased with that the only thing i have to be carefull with is i live on a farm and i have to watch the low trees coming out off the dirt track. would be nice if it was like the old days just to chat to a few more people sometimes i have to give myself a rig check just to talk to someone :D
