Hello everyone,
new to the forum and just thought I'd say hi!!
Been a CB'er since my uncle donated a 22 channel AM rig to me in about 1977/78. Had a Colt 40 channel FM for christmas 1981 and a York 863 the following christmas which I still use every day 29 years later. (Apart from a new power lead in 1995, its as it was, not a single minutes trouble, ever!!) Also use a Midland 77-900 from the home base that I picked up at a car boot sale last summer for £5.
Gained my full amateur licence in 2005 but rarely talk on those bands, Im more of a shortwave listener in those regions. Once a CB'er, always a CB'er. Im officially one out of only 817 people in Britain who were issued a CB licence every year from 1981 to de-regulation in 2006. I got the information from Ofcom and it took about 20 months to prize it out of them. If they had regulated 27/81 a bit better, it might still be as popular today as it was in the 80s. Instead it seems to over populated with bucket mouths and frustrated disc-jockeys.
On the bright side, when I park up on my DX spot just outside Abergavenny late at night, there are still plenty of decent old schoolers out there who are up for a good old mod and rag-chew..
If anyone is passing through Abergavenny, day or night, give "The Black Sabbath" a shout, Ive almost always got the rig on..
