There's a few people I work with who use hand held 2 way radios. They're always moaning about them for various reasons, mainly that they're not getting a overnight charge as they have to turn the generator off that powers up the mains in the porta-cabin on site. I suggested getting CBs with maybe a 1.5 meter Orbiter Ariel. Most of these machines are 35 tonne and knock down buildings. If they mounted the ariels out of the way of the business end of these machines they should be ok, shouldn't they? They have 12/24v power outlets inside and plenty of places to mount the CB.
Tough and hard wearing would be the obvious criteria here I think. Anyone with any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you. :)

Thanks Stampman. Yes that's why we're trying to get the firm to get some. Most tipper drivers and machine drivers communicate by using the hooter and shouting!

Another good idea! I don't know why more firms don't look into using CB. They're cheap, easy to use and so useful.
I think the boss is keen at my firm to get some. It's a demolition firm, so the foreman wants the hand held Midland so he can walk around barking out orders to all the machine drivers & lorry drivers. They said about trying it out with one gang and if its successful then kitting out the whole firm. We could even use AM now legally!

Nice one, thanks for that. We've just got to wait for the boss to give it the green light now!
