hi, can anyone explain why or what 10meter/11 meter is, when you buy a superstar 3900 for instance[like i just have!!] on the advert it said 10 meter tranciever but later on said that it covered 25.6-28.3 mhz so what is the relationship between meters and hertz?? the seller also said that to "get" the full channels i have to pull the swr/cal switch out does this mean that it came like this-he said it was an export model with 240 channels so what would it cover if the switch was left in, did i buy a dud??!!
thanks, unclejessie.
hopeless!!
with the switch left in it will only cover cept uk legal 40 channels
when you pull the switch out it opens all the modes and channels up
you need a frequency counter with this radio if your new to all this or you will
find it hard to find the correct channel frequency
channel 19 uk fm is channel 33 not channel 19 like you would think
you will not no with out a frequency counter
once you get your head round it you will love this radio
the superstar 3900 is a fantastic radio for dx work

any chance of explaining this 10metre/11 metre thing??
basicly 10 meters is the length of an antenna that is the most efficent for broad casting the power on the frequancy ie 144.5000megs broadcasts transmitts into a 2 meter long antenna which is why radio hams call it 2 meters hope this helps

if it anit broke dont fix it
Just to add :
10m is only allowed to be used by Amateur Radio Operators. You need a license to operate on these frequencies.

so does this radio cover all the uk 40 channels? but the channels have different numbers? i need a rig for the uk channels but would love to see if there is anyone out there on ssb
It will cover all uk frequencies but split into 2 bands, High band (E) from channel 16 on the readout would be channel 1 uk40 but you also have to have the coarse pointed at roughly quarter too position, 33 would be 19 40 would be channel 26, only thing is because its an export radio the channels dont fall one after the other which makes it a bit tricky.
Channel 16 = 1
Channel 17 = 2
Channel 18 = 3
Channel 19 = 4
Switch +10kc up for Channel 5
Channel 20 = 6
Channel 21 = 7
Channel 22 = 8
Channel 23 = 11
Channel 24 = 9
Channel 25 = 10
Channel 26 = 12
Channel 27 = 13
Channel 28 = 14
Channel 29 = 15
Channel 30 = 16
Channel 31 = 17
Channel 32 = 18
Channel 33 = 19
Channel 34 = 20
Channel 35 = 21
Channel 36 = 22
Channel 37 = 23
Channel 38 = 24
Channel 39 = 25
Channel 40 = 26
Channel 16 = 1
Channel 17 = 2
Channel 18 = 3
Channel 19 = 4
Switch +10kc up for Channel 5
Channel 20 = 6
Channel 21 = 7
Channel 22 = 8
Channel 23 = 11
Channel 24 = 9
Channel 25 = 10
Channel 26 = 12
Channel 27 = 13
Channel 28 = 14
Channel 29 = 15
Channel 30 = 16
Channel 31 = 17
Channel 32 = 18
Channel 33 = 19
Channel 34 = 20
Channel 35 = 21
Channel 36 = 22
Channel 37 = 23
Channel 38 = 24
