I have 3 aerials to use if I need now what one would be best.............

1. trucker 80..................shortest
2. cherokee....................middle size about 4 ft
3. the modulator.................longest about 5 ft

so far I have tried all 3 & they seem the same :| :|

cheers Paul

4000 is a good antenna but seems to have a problem in the base after a while

go for the one with the longest whip
that should give the best result of the 3 but not a lot

I have used the modulator on my wagon for a good few months, and it does get out and recieve ok.
I then swapped for a Red Devil type antenna, which is basically a longer coil version of the modulator, and the difference on TX/RX is easilly noticable.
I pick up weaker signals, and broadcast further.Suppose it depends on your choice of rig and SWR reading, but i have regular contacts at over 13 miles, which is rather good for a mobile rig.I was using a Midland 48XL which has just gone via Ebay.I will now be using a York 863,which i have been lusting after for a good few years, cant waite to get in sorted in the wagon.
If your antenna is going to be as high as possible, say ontop of the cab, then a springer/trucker type would be ideal, cos it can take the hammer of low bridges and trees, etc BUT you can buy a spring seperate anwyay and use any antenna you like.

ok im going to be honest out of your the arials the modulator why well longer the whip the better the swr is going to be,

for a arial for a truck yes i agree with you bluejack thw springer is a good arial but the original springer arial is the orbitor what works that little bit better but of course all original arials will work better than a copyied arial.
