Do dust off the Astatic mic - I use a really old one with my Superstar 3900 and it works superbly well (a contact I made the other day thought I was on a Ham radio not a Chicken Box
)
Please let us know how you get on with the L/Rover install.

got the sirio 4000 this week and drilled the hole today so i could fit it to the roof of my landy.
its a big one just over 6', i thought i had it swr in but realised i had the power down realy low
will have another go in the morning and see if i can get out any where.
how do you break in on a DX conversation? for a rig check etc

To break in to a conversation, you can use, on the side, side or QSK. There is no hard and fast rule, but as a general I would suggest, on FM, you use on the side or side. You don't always get time to say on the side, between overs, so it is often just shortened to a quick, side, to get in before the next person keys up. If you're using SSB, then the amateur call is generally used, QSK, which means the same thing for all intents and purposes.jonny66 wrote:got the sirio 4000 this week and drilled the hole today so i could fit it to the roof of my landy.

I'm not sure what you would class a a DX conversation, but maybe start with a shout for a rig check on UK19. The only downside is quite often the reply will be, "yeah, you're getting out mate" with a feeling the person doesn't really what to bother much more than that. Next step is to trawl around UK19 and find a channel with a few people on it, lsiten it for a bit and then give it a, side. But don't just ask for a rig check, because that bores the rubbish out of people. Tell them you've just come back on air or have a new set up and tell them what it is (the rig, whether you're running standard power and the aerial) and that's why you're asking for some feedback.
You're much more likely to get some useful feedback and if they have or have used the same kit, it will become a discussion point.

well im not having much luck, i re checked the swr today on full power. perfect on the mid chanels and 2.5 on the highs and lows. i guess thats ok.
i have been on both fm chanel 19, am chanel 19, even tried 14 as that used to be the one, had a listen to 27.555 usb, ive flicked through the channels and found a few people, not one person would come back to me.
i then tried the talk back button, with this on i got loads of feed back, i assume that is what other people are hearing when i key the mike. could it be an earth problem with the aireal??
