Hi all - new user here, and almost new to the world of CBs, but not quite.

So, i have a CB in my campervan, or rather did have a CB in my campervan until some scroat stole it last night!! Totally opportunist, because i am a fool and left the aerial on the van and the rig in full view just under the dash. They didn't take any of the tools that were scattered about the back of the van, or the cans of cider (coz i'm proper clarssy, innit), or indeed the dancing Elvis suckered to the front windscreen. Gits.

So, the set-up i had was the Intek M-790, with an Orbiter 1.55m on a gutter mount. I bought it from here just over a year ago, after speaking to someone on the phone - I guess that was Andy? I can tell you that whoever it was was very helpful, and even gave me the Internet price even though i'd rung up on the phone and asked *loads* of questions and ordered it on the phone whilst i was about it.

So, is that set-up the best i could have? My budget is about £100, so it fits into that neatly, and it fits in my campervan nicely. Although obviously i'll remember to take it out of the van when it's parked up for a few days outside the house.... I mostly use it for listening rather than talking, and almost always when i'm stuck in traffic on the motorway. Turn on the CB and voila!!, you get the gen on the hold-up from the truckers talking to each other. I guess as and when i buy a replacement, now i'm on here i'll use it a bit more to talk rather than just earwigging, as it seems rather a shame to use it just as a traffic alert device!!

So, my handle on the airwaves is Big Bernie. Any suggestions as to how i could better the set-up mentioned above would be gratefully received, even if it's just to tell me that i don't need to look any further than the kit i've mentioned :)

Cheers all :D

Hi Stampman - thanks for the welcome and the advice :D

For the time being the Wilson 1000 is a bit out of my price range, but i'll certainly bear it in mind as an upgrade later on :)

Thanks for the welcome!! Can you recommend a good antenna, but one that is a wee bit cheaper than the Wilson above? The Orbiter 1.55m i had in the van seemed to be ok, but i never did an SWR check on it and the range seemed quite limited to my untrained scope....

Hello psychonaut, I use a sirio 9000 quite often and found that it swr's in really easy and gives a reasonable range too!

Many thanks Asterix and Stampman!!

I had a call from the Police this mnorning - they'd pulled a DNA match from my van and put someone in the frame for the theft!! Result!! Good work South Wales Police :D

SO, now i just need an antenna, and maybe an SWR meter to make sure it's all set up tidy.

lol - they found the CB base unit at his gaff, and it's now back in my gaff :)

So i've ordered another aerial (Thunderpole Thunderstick 7') with a mirror mount, plus an SWR meter and an external speaker. :D
