Hi All,
On another UK website a discussion is taking place regarding the future of our hobby.
There are large areas of the country where there is virtually no CB use.
Please take a look at the site 888888888888n the CB radio chat section. They do say use it or lose it and i'm not sure i know how to ensure the future survival of our frequencies but it would be useful for as many people who use and enjoy CB to get involved in the discussion.
One of the thoughts i have expressed is that we need the support of the UK based retailers who after all have a vested interest to get that much needed publicity.
Have a look and put forward your 2p worth!

do you think in 10 years time CB radio will still be around?
I Hope and Do not think Cb Will ever die out. It will certainly fade in and out. There might be some months where it fades out but then it will definetly be back again. And as Stampman says its such a useful thing to have. But its people like us setting up there's fourms and companys like thunerpole who will keep it going!
This Radio is NEVER going to die!!
Land Ahoy over.

Well.........
From what I understand a very low percentage of users bothered with licences anyway. There comes a point where there are two options - deregulate or ban. The cost of collecting fees exceeds the revenue generated. Banning would never work as the cost of enforcement would ... you get the picture. Deregulation, in theory, still allows some control. If you don't conform to the conditions of excemption you can be busted. Like that's going to happen. I like deregulation. I don't like all the people swearing and making threats.
As it happens there appears to be no CB use in the area. I'm going to have a go at convincing some of my younger friends that CB might be a fun thing to do. I'd love a big stick to wave at them before they start using playground words. I just want someone to talk to.....
But then again there may be lots of activity and my poor old midland has died but not bothered to tell me
Actually that leads to another question. I'll find somewhere else to post it.

cant see how they are going to remove cb from usage in uk as it is too well embeded in daily life for a lot of people and they dont have the resorces to stop it they couldent when it was am so i would not bet on them succeding when its legal

if it anit broke dont fix it
i realy realy want cb to continue but as of some time ago we have become the second user of the uk27fm frequencies,in other words we now share them with users.
ofcom sore that uk2781 was not been used much so we lost it,we now have the cept frequencies.
they belong to us.
you can use uk27fm for the life of that radio.
for any info go and look at the ofcom website under cb.

Of course the more rig's been sold will help i would have thought. That would result in more cb user's the more the better..
Cheers Gav

Monitoring CH19
if you can use it for the life of the radio and there are sets that were made in the late 50's still going and they are making cept set's with uk fm built in then they are never going to die a natural death so ofcom have shot thereselves in the foot or scoared an own goal (again)

if it anit broke dont fix it

How to save CB........
Well -
I saw Die Hard 4 last night.
Basic plot is that some ex-government über techy computer hack turns cyber-terrorist and decides to shut down the USA in revenge for being considered a twit and getting the sack.
Cyber-terrorist breaks into all the 'secure government facilities' and hacks the servers. The power goes down and all the computer-reliant things, from satelite comms to emergency services to traffic lights goes up the swanny and the country is plunged into darkness. Only one man can save us....
John MacClaine is doing his thing, blowing stuff up, killing bad guys, making jokes. Along for the ride is a computer hacker, who helps out and fills the role of comedy sidekick quite well.
Along the way (it's an obvious plot point, BTW, so this doesn't really spoil it), MacClaine must enlist the help of a local hacking demi-god, by the name of Warlord. This being Hollywood, it just happens that Warlord keeps an old CB radio in his 'Command Centre'.... and MacClaine just happens to be driving a big 18-wheeler at the time.... Of course all 18-wheelers in America still have CB.....
OK, it's not Convoy, but that little moment in a major Hollywood picture gave the world a reminder that CB still works. In fact, the character kept the radio on the basis that it would still work even if all the world's computer technology crashed... sorta like it does in the movie, really.
It may be a cheesy plot device, but it's a start!!
More of this, please Hollywood!!
Simple marketing - If John MacClaine uses CB, it must be cool!!
"Yippee-Kayay, Motherf*cker!!"

The film or the post?
If the film then your probably right. I've not seen it. At least I don't think I have - they all look the same to me. Chewing gum for the eyes - and not the best flavoured.
However, it's simple advertising. Make something look cool and the kids will want it. Not sure I like the idea of hundreds of kids cluttering up the airwaves swearing at each other but hopefully some might treat it with respect.
Maybe some use is better than none. All I've heard in the last 10 days is '.....he's run out of diesel'. Has everyone migrated to CEPT?

I hope he's meaning the film, not my post!!andyh wrote:what a load of rubbish that was.

Yes, the film was a bit naff... I make allowances for it being Hollywood.
No-one could fall out of a car moving along at 40-50mph while wearing a t-shirt and NOT have lost a large amount of flesh through abrasive injury.
Trust me - It's something all motorcyclists will tell you.
However, like Tim said - Make it look cool and people will go for it.
How many people (be honest now) took up smoking and/or drinking because at the time it was considered cool?
