had the last fault fixed and its working that side.

was using it out in the van the other day and a small springer antenna with a low swr of 1.1 and it seems the finals have blown.

away to the company again on monday to see if it is the finals or something else (finals not covered by warrenty)

will see how much its going to cost to repair, if its not over the top its getting fixed then hitting the bay, i gave it one last chance but its failed me again so lincoln and icom all the way now.

could be a plan lol

providing its fixed with the job receipts for testing and retuning if it needs it i will get it on the bay, had enough of it now

pretty poor bearing in mind its not a year old, and the lincoln is much older but blows the socks off the magnum for reliability

the thing that annoys me more is there is no explination for the finals to pop if i had a swr of 2 plus then yes, if it had been used constantly for hours then yes.

it pop on my first return after moving off the 555 so only really my first call, i dont know it will be on the bay this time,

or like gary said introduce it to the range if the cost of the finals is to much, it may not be the finals could be something else ( i hope so as its free then)

if not, my answer to most things broken, P4 (gods putty)

or jdam (possibly a bit much for a magnum 257, unless we get a few of them stocked up first)

When I read that line I had a wonderful image of John Cleese beating Seven Bells out of his 1100 with a chunk of tree in Fawty Towers.
Brilliant scene.

Maybe you'd feel better if you gave that Magnum "a Damn Good Thrashing" a la Basil Fawlty.
Somewhat less final than Gary's "shoot it" suggestion, and certainly less drastic than wasting a lump of "God's Putty" on it.

but yes i see what your saying there steve,

well it will be on the bay as soon as its back as i have just brought some new cd players so i will need to recoup some cash on them

like i say i have the lincoln and the icom to play with that will do.

I've been around a bit - and I upgraded from that Ranger 2970 to an old Kenwood HF set at the weekend so I've been looking forward to getting out a lot more, and further.

Was really impressed with the New Toy (albeit an old 'New' toy) and was doing well on the Band, right up until I found out I was causing major RFI on the phones in the house (see my "Help" request in the Homebase CB Antennas section of the Forum). So I'm officially off-air until I find out what's causing the RFI and how to fix it. :-(

Can't even fall-back on the Ranger in the meantime as, once I'd confirmed the Kenwood was working and had a decent mod, I put the Ranger up for sale on t'bay as a Buy it Now. It sold within eight minutes of the listing going live and I had the money paid-in one minute later =D> . Normally I'd be thrilled to have sold it so quickly but I wish it had hesitated so I could use it while I sort the Kenwood out. Can't win! #-o
