Hello everyone. Im not new to CB but new to this forum. Could somebody help please. Im a single lorry owner driver with a pilot vehicle. The issues i have is when my pilot vehicle is within 3 car lengths of me in the lorry and if the pilot vehicle tries to communicate with me nothing comes thru what so ever, the long distance is fine. Both vehicles are fitted with TTI TCB560 radios and the large thunderpole orbitor antennas, i do regularly clean and maintain both the antenna mounts. The antenna on the pilot vehicle is mounted to standard square type roof bars and the SWR is less than 1:1. Now what i have discovered lately is when i plug a SWR/power meter inline, communication miraculously is there !!! also the same thing happens when i have both vehicles together and when keying up on the pilot vehicle if i hold the spring base of the antenna with my hand once again communication is ok. Im thinking that i may have ground plane issues so i ran a wire to a good earth point but this didnt help with the issue. I tried a mag mount but still no improvement. Other than fitting a permanent mount direct to the roof im not sure what else to try. Any ideas please.
Thank you

Hi,
This is going to sound daft but try putting a back to back SO239 connector in place of the swr meter (theoretically just extending the coax by a foot or so) and see what happens. It could be as simple as a missmatch in the coax length.
One person in ten understands binary. The other one doesn't.
