possible and common, better would be by direct wiring to your battery via a fuse, and with a connector block; make up a matching connector for your home power supply

you need to SWR always, get one asap, but that doesn't sound like your problem
the aerial needs to make good contact with a "ground plane", think of it as a metal mirror to reflect the waves up & outwards - aluminium body work doesn't do this
the aerial negative/coax shield needs to be "earthed ...

it's Italian and hence on the EU scale, will need nearly an inch taken off the top to be able to swr on the UK band; do so in 1/4 in. increments
