Hi,
From reading your other post, the radio you have isn't a CB on 27mHz. Hopefully someone will confirm but I believe it's a ham type radio (licence required) at 430 - 440 mHz.
If you were wanting to get back into CB, a rig-mount-antenna kit would be £100 ish to get you started.

Re: From South West Cornwall. UK
On holidays many years ago, used to drive up to the top of Bodmin Moor near Minions mast in the evenings and talk to Wales and Jersey. Never encountered the 'beast of bodmin' though.

Close range null point?
Hi,
In the last 40 odd years I've been installing radios in almost everything and thought I'd seen it all but this it a new one on me.
I have an old Mustang 1000 fitted in a harvester, and 6 tractors mostly running T800 or T600, and all runnuing through large springer type antennas.

Hi,
There's no straight answer and a raft of possibilities so probably need a little more info...
What rig is it? What antenna? And what are you installing it in?

Re: Aerial
In the past you would tip the cab up and look for a suitable pre-existing grommet, but with modern hermetically sealed and firewalled cabs this is less easy.
If it's your own wagon then a studmount is the answer but if not then your having to deal with spineless managers again.

The best way would usually be to come in through the passenger door shut.

Re: Close range issues on mobile CB
Hi,
This is going to sound daft but try putting a back to back SO239 connector in place of the swr meter (theoretically just extending the coax by a foot or so) and see what happens. It could be as simple as a missmatch in the coax length.

Hi,
The advice is for a mobile installation. If the ground plane you're sticking it to is stationary then the mag you have should be fine.

Hi, I guess the first question is what are you using for a ground plane?

Re: Hi from Cardiff returning to cb after a long absence
Unfortunately without someone to confirm your set up is working it's difficult to know what you're working with.
I'm sure there have been others in your area on this forum within the last 12 months so don't give up hope yet.
If the set up is mobile then the obvious thing to do is just leave it on ...

Re: Groundplanes
So the way I'm reading this is that you have a mobile type antenna, 3/8 stud base, with a stud mount into the gp. I don't see any reason why the gp would need to be flat, if you were to take a 6' x3' sheet, fold it down the middle and sit it on the roof with a screw in each corner it should work ...

Re: Groundplanes
Hi,
You don't say what antenna/mount system you're using.
A folded sheet of metal sat on the peak of the roof would help but not knowing what you have it's difficult to suggest.
